CLEARING FOR WILDFIRE SAFETY
The National Fire Protection Association defines the “Home Ignition Zone” as extending 200’ out from the house. It divides the zone into three parts, each with specific guidelines to help protect your home from wildfires, ember attacks, and other fire dangers. By creating these defensible spaces around your home, NW Landworks can bring your property into compliance with these guidelines while retaining its natural beauty and landscaping. According to the Insurance Information Institute, Washington state had 1,394 fires in 2019, burning 169,742 acres. Another estimated 160,500 homes are still at risk – the 6th highest in the country.
INVASIVE SPECIES CONTROL & REMOVAL
HIMALAYAN BLACKBERRY, SCOTCH BROOM, & CANARY GRASS
Removing these invasive species is critical to preventing the further spread of these destructive plants which reduce property value, outcompete native plant species, and impact the usefulness of your land. Scotch Broom seeds (which are also toxic to most livestock) can remain viable for a decade, spreading 25+ feet every year.
Himalayan Blackberry plants are very difficult and painful to remove by hand because of their sharp thorns & tough woody stalks. NW Landworks’ mechanized removal kills up to 99% of the roots to minimize growth over the coming years. Blackberry plants can grow up to 20 feet each summer when starting with a healthy root system – but Blackberry patches which have been cleared by NW Landworks grow an average of just one foot during the following summer.

Canary Grass chokes off water drainage routes, flooding pastures and low-lying areas near creeks. It creates a tangled mass of foliage that is nearly impossible to remove by hand. NW Landworks uses a brush/root rake to clear out large sections of Canary Grass from waterways, allowing water to flow and fish to spawn.

SLOPE CLEARING

NW Landworks specializes in slope clearing. We run powerful machines with a low center of gravity and reduced pressure on the ground which allows us to clear brush and trees on slopes up to 40 degrees. NW Landworks operators can clear those hard-to-reach areas, ensuring that any existing vegetation you want to keep remains unharmed. We prevent and minimize erosion by mulching material in place.

PRE-SALE AND DUE DILIGENCE
Let us help you get the right information when buying or selling land: NW Landworks uses a handheld GPS when clearing property lines before surveyors are brought in, to identify buildable land, or discover potential uses hidden by brush and trees. Decades of industry experience help NW Landworks work directly to communicate with inspectors and other local officials, making the sale or permitting easier for everyone involved.

PASTURE MOWING & FIELD RECLAMATION
![](https://nwlandworks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Asset-10.png)
NW Landworks works with both farmers and landowners to maintain and reclaim pastures and large fields. Weeds and invasive species can reduce the size of your pasture or hayfield. Unwanted plants & their seeds can be toxic to livestock, reducing the value or use of your hay. Keeping your fence lines clear to maximize the yield increases the value of the crop and the land itself. NW Landworks can help you reclaim and restore old fields to begin farming again, or to lease out.

Contact usLOT CLEARING
NW Landworks uses an innovative mulching process that is efficient and leaves the customer’s valuable topsoil in place or improves it with new organic matter. Our awareness of which species require additional water and care let us help you reduce future landscaping costs by carefully preserving specific plants when clearing the land. NW Landworks’ expertise can also reduce the cost of setting up the parcel after clearing by saving native vegetation that can be a part of the final landscaping. By understanding how the vegetation will grow and behave in the future, we plan landscaping to work with the ways that the plants will will grow as opposed to trying to fight against them.
Clearing property lines, easements, road shoulders and ditches
NW Landworks has a simple process that works for a variety of services that involve clearing and conditioning your property.
- Make an assessment: talk with the customer about the building site’s property lines, trails, views, erosion, any plants that you want to save, and any goals for the property
- Remove vegetation: brush mowing, then clear out the larger trees that are left
- Mulching: either mulch in place to replenish the topsoil, or make a mulch pile nearby to reduce the volume of the foliage before taking it to a green recycling facility.
- Ground conditioning: go back through and do any raking or tilling that’s deeper into the ground.
- Final cleanup: one more pass of grading and contouring to ensure your property is perfect!
